Please
contact us should you have any questions
about the program.
*[class is
limited to 8 , If a class fills up we can
put you on the list for our next class
We Invite you & your Pit
Bulls (purebreds or mixed) to participate in
our AKC Canine Good Citizen
Program.
All dogs who pass the CGC
test can send in and receive a certificate
from the American Kennel Club.
Class size is limited to
8 people
which will allow more
one-on-one training.
There
is no age limit for dogs, however, we
do suggest that the dog is at least
10 months of age ,
all
dogs should be old enough to have
completed all vaccinations.
PLEASE BRING PROOF OF VACCINES.
If a
dog passes as a puppy, they should be
re-tested as an adult as temperament can
change as they mature. We will provide
you with more information on re-testing
during the classes.
I Why get a CGC
?
Earning the CGC certificate
will show to the community that your dog has
demonstrated good stable temperament and
excellent manners to become a canine good
citizen in its community. In fact, some
organizations that have pet therapy programs
require a CGC certification.
Class Outline
The AKC Canine Good Citizen
Prep course will be 6 weeks. The
first 5 sessions will consist of work on the
steps listed below with the 6th
session being the actual CGC test.
*Please
note that registration & participation
in the class does not guarantee passing the
CGC Test. If your dog does not pass the CGC
or TDI test, you will be able to re-test at
a later date.

DAY] time TBA
Prep Yourself BEFORE Class:
1. Bring a hungry dog.
In most cases, a hungry dog is a MOTIVATED
dog. This is probably the most important tip
of them all. If you absolutely have to feed
them, only give them half of what they would
normally get at a feeding.
2.Bring soft treats cut
into pea-size amounts of different varieties
and preferably something they don’t get
every day since you will want to keep
your dog’s attention with all the
distractions that will be going on in the
training environment. Do not bring
milkbone type treats. The softer the
treat the quicker they will chew so you can
move on to other steps in the training
process. Some favorites of mine are
chopped up chicken breast, hot dogs, cheese,
freeze-dried liver, lamb lung, Liver
Biscotti, Charlee Bear treats and Zuke's.
3.Bring a treat bag,
fannypack, carpenters belt, etc. You
want to access treats quickly, instead of
fishing around in your jeans pocket. You
will thank me later.
4.If your dog isn't
super-foodie, bring something that does
motivate him. This may be a tennis ball,
rope toy or a favorite stuffed toy.
Squeaky toys are okay. but if your training
class has more than one squeaky toy fanatic,
you might have an issue on your hands.
5.Bring a stuffed Kong,
bullystick or other type of long-term
consumable. This will keep your dog
occupied during down time and
demonstrations. You can fill this with a
number of things, but make it sticky so it
is harder to get out and STINKY to keep your
dog's attention. Freeze it for an even
longer term project. Place under your foot
during class to keep your dog and the kong
with you.
6.NO FLEXI-LEADS.
They are dangerous. Dogs can get tangled
around each other quickly and they have, can
and will as well as risks of amputation (it
is written all over the package). You
will need to bring a 6’ standard leather,
nylon or cotton leash.
7.NO PRONG/PINCH COLLARS;
Recommended collars: martingale or buckle
collar. If you are using a gentle leader or
harness please have that on your dog when
you come.
8. We recommend that you
walk/exercise/play with your dog before
class so they will be a little bit tired but
not so worn out that they won’t work.
9.
PLEASE do not allow your dog to go up to
other dogs in class unless instructed to do
so by the trainer. Remember, not all dogs
like other dogs
