IPBRC MISSION STATEMENT:

The Indiana Pit Bull Rescue Coalition’s (IPBRC) primary function is to assist shelters, rescue organizations and individuals locate reputable and responsible rescue resources for pit bull type dogs. IPBRC also strives to help shelters and rescues understand the ethical, moral, humane and public safety reasons that make careful rescue resource screening and selection necessary. Where possible IPBRC will work to provide shelters and rescues with the tools and knowledge to make their own responsible placements of pit bull type dogs. Additionally IPBRC members agree to recognize that the need to rescue the public reputation of pit bull type dogs must at all times take precedence over the needs of an individual dog, adopter or owner and commit to prioritizing accordingly.

Casa Del Toro Rescue, Halfway House Pit Bull Rescue and ASTRO have recently seen an increase in the number of all breed shelters and rescue organizations who wish to be “pit bull friendly” but were struggling to find reputable and responsible rescue resources who are equipped to deal with the challenges involved in the rescue and placement of pit bull type dogs. After realizing that the lack of pit bull knowledgeable rescues was causing unacceptable and possibly unsafe placements within our communities, Casa Del Toro Rescue, Halfway House Pit Bull Rescue and ASTRO have banded together to create the Indiana Pit Bull Rescue Coalition (IPBRC).

IPBRC will provide shelters, rescue organizations and individuals with a single central location where they can obtain a list of prescreened rescues (which have already demonstrated their ability to work responsibly with pit bull type dogs) as well as providing guidance to organizations wishing to conduct their own screening process. IPBRC hopes to also educate shelters and rescue organizations regarding the inherent risks to both dogs and public that may result from improper screening of the rescue resources to which they choose to release pit bull type dogs.

Additionally, IPBRC will furnish assistance and instruction for organizations wishing to learn how to responsibly evaluate pit bull type dogs that enter their facilities; as well as providing education to those organizations who wish to learn to handle their own adoptive placements in a pit bull friendly yet responsible manner.

Sincerely,

Ron Frye                                                                                                            President Indiana Pit Bull Rescue Coalition
